How To Make Café Curtains

Curtains may be made out of any material with just a few hours of effort and basic sewing skills especially when we talk about cafe curtains. They are typically utilized to add a touch of airy softness to a kitchenette or a bathroom and are shorter than more conventional window treatments. They usually consist of two lower panels and a matching or complementing balance, and are constructed of a light, sheer fabric. How to make café curtains is so easy that even a novice can complete them in a few hours. Make sure to read this all the way through so you can begin making your own cafe curtains.

What You Need To Make A Café Curtain

Cafe curtains are really significant because they maintain privacy and regulate the amount of light that enters the room. Thus, learning how to make cafe curtains will not only save you money, but also adds aesthetic to your windowsills.

MATERIALS

  • 1 yard fabric (you can use whatever design or color you like)
  • Hard ruler & scissors
  • Sewing machine & thread
  • Iron
  • Curtain clips and rod
  • Cotton lace trim (optional)

10 Easy Steps To Make Café Curtains

STEP 1. Select A Design Theme
Before going into making the curtains, you must first choose what design or theme you would like the curtains to be. This isn’t a problem because there are endless possibilities when it comes to cafe window designs.

STEP 2. Measure The Frame
After measuring the width of your window add 2 inches for seam allowances and then measure again from the top of the upper curtain rod down to 1/3 of the window’s total height.

STEP 3. Determine the Fabric’s Thickness.
This step will specifically focus on the type of fabric that you would use for the cafe curtain. If you want something more extravagant and flashy chose a thicker fabric. For your guide, A laser projector has a weight of one and a half, whereas an extravagantly built board has a fullness of three.

STEP 4. Calculate the Amount of Fabric To Use

Here are a few instructions to guide you through.

  • Multiply the fullness between 1.5 and 3 by the width of your frame. For example, if the window is 3 feet wide, you’ll need a 6 foot length of material to create each full-sized panel.
  • Consider that a valance and a confidentiality tier should both be full-sized panels.
  • If you choose to design curtains, the panel size will be around half that of a standard-sized panel, and at least two sheets will be required for something as simple as a single window.
  • Add 2.5 inches to the width and 6.5 inches to the length of your valance, tier, or curtain structure to account for edges, rod openings, and hemlines. You can adjust the number according to the type and the length of the rod.

STEP 5. Decide What Fabric To Use
When creating cafe curtains, it’s important to consider utility. Put an end to the use of materials that easily stretch or shrink when cleaned. In advance of a cooking catastrophe, it is prudent to search out a flame-resistant material.

STEP 6. Arrange ang Straighten The Fabric
We do not want to make a cafe curtain from a wrinkled fabric so make sure to lay the fabric out and iron it on a flat surface.

STEP 7. Cut The Fabric Base
With a cotton pencil, a tape measurer and horizontal line, highlight the dimensions of your boards on the material. Use sharp scissors to cut the fabric according to your measurements to make two panels.

STEP 8. Make The Edge At The Top and Bottom

  • On one of the panels, create the bottom hem. With the wrong side of the cloth facing up, turn the bottom of the panel up 4 inches and iron the fold. Fold it 4 inches again and press to produce a double-fold hem. Sew the hem in place using a straight stitch setting on a sewing machine.
  • Make the hem at the top. Fold the panel’s top 1 1/2 inches down and iron. Fold it 1 1/2 inches further and press to make the double-fold hem. Straight stitch the hem. Repeat process for the other panel.

STEP 9. Sharpen the Side Edges
Double-fold the hems on the sides of each panel. The only distinction is that each fold measures 1 inch in width. To protect the bottom, sew all around the fold’s edges.

STEP 10. Create The Rod Pocket

  • Fold the panel’s upper hand in 0.6 inches (1.30 cm), then clip the other side.
  • Once again, fold the clean edge underneath, the one on the wrong side allowing enough space for the width of the rod you’ll be using, and clip again.
  • Complete the rod pocket by stitching as close as possible to the folding side.

Slide the two panels onto the rod, set the rod into the brackets and your cafe curtain is ready!

That’s it! How to make café curtains step-by-step.
