A bundt cake is a cake made using a bundt pan. One of the defining characteristics of a bundt cake is its doughnut shape. The bundt pan creates this shape using the pipe-like structure in the middle of the pan.
This structure also creates a great crust for the cake, and unlike normal cakes, it is a bit crunchy. Compared to a normal cake, bundt cakes are also sturdier, making a nice base for a structured cake.
Make a Bundt Cake at Your Home
Now that you know the difference between a bundt cake and a regular cake, we will now teach you how to make a bundt cake at your home. We have to prepare the ingredients and tools we need to use.
Ingredients and Tools
Some of the tools we need should already be available at your house if you have done some baking before. The first is a large oven. A normal-sized oven may not fit the cake when it is fully cooked. The next thing is the bundt pan. Get a 10-inch bundt pan for this recipe.
The next one is a stand mixer. A hand mixer may not be applicable because you want to add some ingredients while you are mixing. A cooling rack is also necessary to help in the cooling process of the cake after it is cooked. Lastly, prepare a 10- or 12-inch cake board to use as a platform for your cake.
The first thing we need to prepare for our bundt cake is the cake flour. Prepare 3 cups for the cake and a tablespoon for the pan. The next is 3 sticks of butter and one tablespoon also for the pan. Also prepare two and a half cups of sugar, ½ teaspoon of salt, two teaspoons of vanilla extract, and one cup of heavy cream. Have some powdered sugar for toppings and prepare some preserved fruits also for toppings.
Steps on Making Your Bundt Cake
The first step on how to make a bundt cake is pre-heating your oven. Pre-heat it to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Start preparing your bundt pan. Cover the inside surface with butter. Make sure to get all sides, especially if you are using a bundt pan with grooves. After you finish lining the pan with butter, sprinkle with cake flour. Use enough flour to cover the butter. You can dump the excess flour into the sink. Just give the pan a slight shake while upside down to remove excess flour.
Make your cake dough using a stand mixer. Put three sticks of salted butter into the mixer. Add two and a half cups of white sugar. Mix using low speed for a few seconds until the sugar is properly mixed in with the butter. Switch to medium speed and mix for 5 minutes. You can stop a few times in the middle of the 5 minute mixing time to scrape the sides of the bowl to take some of the mixtures sticking to the bowl. Add the vanilla extract and the salt.
The next thing we will add is the eggs. Add 7 eggs one by one while continuously mixing. After a couple of minutes and the eggs are combined thoroughly with the other ingredients, switch down to low speed and add one cup of cake flour. After the cake flour is properly mixed in, add ½ cup of heavy cream. Add again one cup of cake flour then the remaining ½ cup of heavy cream. The last thing to add is another cup of cake flour.
After the cake batter is thoroughly mixed, turn the mixer off and start transferring the batter to the bundt pan we prepared. Make sure to fill the pan to avoid air bubbles. Fill three-fourths of the pan with batter to account for the space needed for the rising of the cake. Flatten the top for a smoother finish.
Place the pan inside the preheated oven and bake for one hour and fifteen minutes total. Midway through cooking, rotate the pan 180 degrees to achieve balance cooking on both sides. After cooking for one hour and fifteen minutes, remove it from the oven and cool it down on a wire rack.
After the cake has cooled down a bit, place the cake board above and flip the pan. Remove the pan to reveal the nice crust formed. You can sprinkle powdered sugar on top of the cake or frost with buttercream icing. Bundt cakes can be decorated in different ways. It depends on you if you like frosting, toppings, or other decorations and flavorings.
Conclusion
If you can’t finish the cake in one serving, you can always store the cake by cutting it to the desired thickness and putting it in a freezer-safe container, and freeze it. To serve it again, just heat it on a pan in low heat. Now that you know how to make a bundt cake at your home, you can now experiment with different flavors and designs. Learn more about bundt cakes.
